Possible Connections
The YYC Data Society isn't just a group of people. We're a group of communities. Our constituency spans over a dozen groups representing a wide range of peoples and industries
Communities. Directed acyclic graphs. Social networks. Minimum spanning trees. Networks are at the heart of who we are and what we do. Join us and be a node forging connections in the community
The YYC Data Society is first and foremost a collection of communities. The best way to get involved is to sign up for our newsletter and attend community events
We're always happy to add new member communities to our ranks! Send an email to info@yycdatacon.com with some information about your current or planned group.
We're currently seeking full stack developers to build internal tooling and a marketing coordinator. If you're interested, email info@yycdatacon.com!
Discover Calgary's thriving data science scene with 2 days of in person talks and networking.
Join us at Platform Calgary on Wednesday April 24th at 5:30pm for our combined PyData and PyYYC meetup group, where Philip Young will walk us through querying NoSQL data at the source using SQL with Azure Synapse. **Schedule:** 5:30 - Pizza and Networking 6:00 - Presentation and Discussion 7:30 - Wrap up **NoSQL to SQL.. without ETL? A look at Azure Synapse Link.** **Presenter:** Philip Young So, your data lives in NoSQL and now you want to do analytics on it. What are your options? ETL, ELT, some other abbreviation? What if you had another option? In this talk, Philip will walk you through his journey utilizing Azure Synapse Link to query NoSQL data at the source using SQL: allowing joins, giving the promise of (almost) real-time data, and no longer having to ETL data from one source to another, along with some of the challenges and lessons learned from the "Schemaless Schema". **Bio:** Philip has worked as a Software Developer for the last 9 years in different domains and for the last 5 years has specialized in Cloud, Data, Integration, and Identity. He holds multiple Cloud and Data certifications and is a lifelong technology enthusiast and constant learner. On the non-technical side he is an avid yogi and recently trained yoga instructor.
Join us as we launch the 4th Micro Projects cohort! Micro Projects are short term data projects that are initiated and led by members and serve a social benefit. The initiative aims to create more volunteering opportunities for members to grow their skills, network, work in a team, and have fun! You are invited to **pitch your project idea** at the meetup. Please complete this form to **indicate your interest** in advance.
