Founding Director & DataCon Chair, YYC Data Society

Theresa Smith

Building Calgary's Data Community.

Theresa Smith is one of the founding directors of the YYC Data Society, the lead organizer of the YYC Data Convention and also runs the Women in Data Calgary Meetup. After working for a number of years as an environmental engineer, she went back to school for a master’s degree in data science in 2017. Since then, she has worked in Calgary’s data scene. She devised the job title Data Strategist because she was working far more in developing data science opportunities and corporate data science infrastructure than in actually writing the algorithms. She spends a lot of her personal time dedicated to the YYC Data Society’s cause of empowering Calgary’s tech sector through community development.

What I can help with:

Thinking through a data science problem, is your company ready for data science?, women in tech, women in leadership, networking in the Calgary data science space, and building community

Where you can find me and how to connect:

LinkedIn is the best and easiest way to connect (please include a note that you found her here). You can also go to a Women in Data Calgary event or find her at the YYC Data Convention, including on any of its associated social media.
